Silicon Valley, CA, May 21, 2021 — SmartTab, an advanced drug delivery technology startup, is boldly combining wireless ingestible technology with active ingredient delivery. The team is pioneering pharmaceutical delivery technologies that could transform the way we take medication. Plug and Play Tech Centers’ investment team will host select startups from their ecosystem on Friday, May 21 virtually on Health Tech focusing on Health & Medical Devices, Biotech & Genetech, Food & Agritech. Robert Niichel, Veloce Corporation's CEO will present SmartTab, a wireless drug delivery platform that addresses the weaknesses of existing oral tablets and subcutaneous injection methods of medication delivery with its three capsule technologies including TargetTab™, InjectTab™, and MultiTab™. Developed by a leadership team of pharmaceutical, wireless technology and medical device R&D experts. As indicated in a release earlier this year, the TargetTab™ targeted drug delivery system completed successful proof of concepts study published in the IBD Journal and Journal of Gastroenterology.
The wireless drug delivery technology empowers a new generation of ingestible capsules while eliminating the need for antiquated and invasive delivery mechanisms. SmartTab's platform is comprised of an ingestible capsule with a microprocessor, proprietary smart polymer actuator, and active ingredients. The team is on a mission to provide novel, effective therapies that improve patient outcomes and compliance. “Our vision is that in 10-15 years you’ll see virtually all capsules and tablets in a pharmacy have some type of an electronic tracking system, delivery, or monitoring system… And we’re the leaders in that space.” said Robert Niichel, Founder, and CEO of SmartTab. “Crohn’s affects a specific section area within the GI tract, by treating just the affected area you can reduce the amount of drug needed, as well as improve patient outcomes, because now you have essentially a laser-targeted delivery."
Plug and Play is the ultimate innovation platform, bringing together the best startups and the world’s largest corporations. Plug and Play portfolio companies have raised over $7bn and includes over 2,000 companies like Paypal, Dropbox, and Lending Club to name a few. “Plug and Play’s connection to corporations will allow SmartTab potential for strategic partnerships to bring this technology to commercialization.” Niichel said, “We want to create a world class center for digital medicine innovation, and improved patient delivery systems.” Niichel adds.
